Still on holidays...Pt 2

A highlight of our trip was a visit to Hartley's Crocodile Farm. The girls were a bit unsure about mingling with crocs when I first suggested it but they were blown away once they were standing toe to toe with them...
Well, not blown away just yet, the Koala's at the start ease you in...
...then it's onto the fun stuff!
A carpet of crocs.
Ticking of "croc" in the kids activity book.
 Not a statue.
Meet some of our very big friends. As you walked around the enclosures they were just everywhere with only a bit of fence between you and their hungry eyes...
Frightened for its life.
There were a bunch of other animals and reptiles to see as well.
And to feed.
We sat in on a talk about the croc farming aspect of the operation (no pics) then took our turn on the boat ride through the lagoon to potentially get eaten again.
Not easy to see but the oldest and biggest resident Ted aged around 80-100 years. I just read that he died a week ago according to The Cairns Post. RIP. We were lucky to have visited you.
It was then time for the Snake Talk. An hour of super interesting and educational information about snakes here in Australia - had these all engrossed the whole time.
Next, the main event - the Croc Attack Show. It was thrilling to watch and everyone had the best seat in the house.
We were on the edge of our seats the WHOLE time.
Our tickets were valid for 3 days so we made the most of them and came back to see the rest of the park and animals and sit in on another croc attack show and also the Koala talk where you could up close and pat them.
Stopped for the Koala talk where you can see Leyla front and centre. We would HIGHLY recommend folks visit Hartley's (and no, this is not a sponsored post haha)
Chilling with Chips.
We met up again with Misha and met his son and their friends for a BBQ on the Esplanade.
It involved some tree climbing...
...some games...
...and some scootering along the paths to all the parks (more on those later)
On another day we met up with some of Sami's old work mates for a coffee and play in another fab park. At the moment, La's favourite animal is a turtle.
 And herself.

South of the marina in Cairns.
Who works more in this relationship I wonder?!?
We headed up to Kuranda one morning intending to go on the Skyrail but it was closed for repairs (good thing?!?) so we made some new plans...
Barron Falls was always on the agenda - a trickle at this time of year.
Some lunch in Kuranda at the park and then off to tour the Atherton Tablelands for the afternoon.
It was a rainy afternoon, good weather for a scenic drive with only needing to run in the rain once to look at the Curtain Fig Tree. We also stopped in at both Lake Eacham and Barrine to have a look.

And found these two beauties at Lake Barrine - Twin Kauris apparently over 1000 years old.

Quite impressive.
Having a look at the Cathedral Fig Tree this time.
A look down the valley toward Gordonvale.
Cairns nightlife - kids style.
